It was Election Day, in Mrs. Sherman's Kindergarten class. For the past two weeks the children had been learning what the word "Election" meant and what an election was all about. Finally the "big day" arrived. They made paper "Uncle Sam" hats and even had their own mock-election. All went quite well, Mrs. Sherman certain that all students understood, completely, what this was all about. Just before the bell rang, for dismissal, the Principal, Mrs. Parker, stopped in for a visit. "My, goodness!" she said. "This must be a very special day" (noticing all the colorful hats). "Can anyone, here, tell me what is this special day?" she asked. Alex, an undersized little 5-year old, who NEVER volunteers an answer, flagged his hand, wildly in the air, to be recognized. "Yes, Alex", said Mrs. Parker, "What is today?" Alex stood up to his full 3 feet, 2 inches, and announced, "ERECTION DAY!" "Oh, my", said Mrs. Parker. "If it only comes round every four years, I'd better get home, so I don't miss it!"
